Salt voting on EDHREC may be coming to an end for 2026, but you can still increase your daily sodium intake with the newest feature added to Commander Spellbook: a Salt Score for combos and locks! Similar to EDHREC's Salt Score voting, users can vote on combos to rate their saltiness for the world to see, with some modifications.
How Does Salt Voting Work?
Commander Spellbook's salt voting is similar to EDHREC's, in that you can visit the Salt Voting landing page and vote on a randomly displayed combo, rating it on a scale from 0 (not salty at all) to 4 (extremely salty). If needed, you can open the combo's page to read the full instructions for how the combo works, what it does and how to perform it.
Once you've cast your vote, it will be aggregated into the Salt Score for that combo after a short delay, and you can vote for the next combo! You will need to log in with your Discord account, which must be a member of the Commander Spellbook Discord server, to cast salt votes.
If there's a specific combo you have a strong opinion about, you can also vote on that combo's combo page! You can find the voting window in the "Metadata" section, where it'll appear like so:
You can also change your existing vote for a combo from that combo's page, in case you change your mind later! Changing your vote will also update the data for the Salt Score accordingly.
How Does This Differ from EDHREC's Salt Votes?
EDHREC's Salt Vote specifically allows voting on individual cards, where Commander Spellbook's Salt Score looks at a specific combo. This allows more nuance in salt levels, as some cards may be salty in some circumstances and not salty in others, Commander Spellbook's scores can also allow certain combo types (like locks and infinite turn combos) to have their salt levels represented, regardless of what cards fit into those types.
Another key difference is length: while EDHREC's Salt Score voting is a limited time event, Commander Spellbook's Salt Score doesn't end! You can always get your salt fix without anticipation, and always easily see the Salt Score of combos year-round.
To keep data current, a combo's Salt Score will only take votes from the previous 12 months to keep scores fresh and in-tune with community perception, especially as changes happen in Magic and new cards are released.
What Can I Use Salt Scores For?
The Salt Score on a combo suggests how fun the community perceives a combo to be: the lower the score, the more fun (and acceptable, generally speaking) a combo is to the community.
This score can be used to exclude combos with high salt levels from decks, allowing games to remain fun and reducing potential problems with unhappy opponents.
Alternatively, you could do the opposite and only run high salt level combos to annoy your friends. I won't judge you...although your opponents probably will. You can also easily search for combos with low salt levels, possibly leading to unique and interesting combos you'd never know existed!
Commander Spellbook does let you search by salt levels for these purposes, using the "salt" keyword in search like so:
You can use the quantifiers <, >, =, <= and >= to tailor the search to your needs.
Conclusion
With Commander Spellbook's new Salt Score, salt can be poured all year long! With that, it's time to turn the shaker over to you, the reader. What combos make you very salty, and what combos do you think have their salt value overstated? Do you have a demonstrated hatred for certain combo types, like locks and infinite turn combos? Let us know down below, and on the new Salt Scores!
