Sure, the EDHREC Salt Score voting determines the Salt level for every card in Magic: The Gathering, but it doesn't rate the players. Just as a card can be salty, from a scale of zero to four, so too can the person who wields them. What's your own personal Salt Score? Take this quiz to find out.

What Salt Level Are You?

I'm a little baby. I can't read. What is a quiz? What is salt? Where am I?

I'm somewhere in the 13-24 range. The "target demographic," I've been told, though I rarely shop at Target so I don't really get that.

I'm 25-34. Old enough to have a burgeoning understanding of the world around me, but young enough that optimism is still kicking around upstairs.

35-49. Old. Tired. Bills. Nap? Leave me alone.

50+. Kids these days, with their "waaa stop playing Winter Orb" - back in MY day we walked uphill both ways in a foot of snow for the PRIVILEGE to have a Winter Orb cast AGAINST us.

I'm minding my own business of course. The speed limit is there for a reason, and I'm not gonna go even a tiny bit over, or under, that number. Too bad for them, I guess.

Time to figure out how responsive my brakes are, huh. Or, how responsive THEIR brakes are.

And people when they get into my car have the gall to ask me why I have a Big Gulp cup full of ball bearings in my cup holder. Well, the driver behind me's about to find out.

This question is not applicable to me, as I have been forbidden by local authorities from operating any machinery larger than a can opener. And that's only because they don't know what I'm capable of with a can opener.

Obviously whatever's going on in their car is their problem, not mine. Maybe there's a hornet in there.

Obviously we start with a few choice expletives. Maybe a half-strength slap to the nearest solid object - not so hard that I'll break it or my hand, but hard enough that anyone else in the house will hear it and know that I AM UPSET.

I'm done with Magic. I hate gravity. The cards are dead to me, they live on the ground now. I never cared that much anyway. It wasn't my fault even that they fell, it was, I dunno, the wind or something. I hate the wind.

The levels of rage I will climb to in response to this occurrence might be considered gauche by some people, but they don't understand the finely-honed art of a perfectly executed freak out.

I mean, pick them up? But I'll say "dang" under my breath, just in case.

I don't know this person. I don't trust this person. I don't want this person touching my cards, looking at my cards, talking about my cards, or breathing near my cards. I will communicate none of this verbally, however, but rather utilize my go-to "weird withering stare."

Oh, to be young again. When I had friends who invited me to Commander night...

I'd greet them with an enthusiastic hello, offer a hug but respect whether or not they reciprocate, welcome them into the fold, talk about how cool their decks are, and generally be an affable person.

It's cool with me that they're there, as long as they didn't park behind me. I hate it when I have to ask someone to move their car for me so I can leave. Most of the time I just sneak away without telling anyone that I'm leaving, but I can't do that if this new person doesn't respect the driveway pecking order.

I will greet them by ensuring that they're the first to die in every game we play. Trial by fire. Oh, they have a Foundations precon? Cool, meet RogSi.

I say "hold on a second, I'll be right back," then I go into another room for around 15 minutes. I'm not doing anything in particular, just making them wait. Then I come back and take a picture of them without asking so I can post on social media all about this fool I'm gonna beat in Commander. Then I do the game-winning action and say "what, are you gonna cry now?" It works every time.

I play the card that wins me the game and let the opponent think of ways to get out of the predicament. If it's true that I won, I offer the handshake and get ready for the next one.

I hit 'em with the KO then say "yeah, good game I guess." It WAS a good game, but let's not get too carried away.

Obviously I do the thing that wins me the game, then I knock over their library like a kitty cat.

I say "I could win right now, you know" and show them the card in my hand that WOULD win the game, but I don't play it. Instead, I cast Jokulhaups to assert dominance.

It's just a game, there'll be others. Sure, I probably won't win, but I might - Game Changers are powerful, but they aren't always auto-win cards. And if I don't win this game, I'll either power up in the next one or ask the opponent to power down.

I'll definitely throw a fit about it, which makes it even funnier (for me) when I start casting the Game Changers I have in my own "Bracket 2" deck.

This question is irrelevant because I would never have agreed to a "Bracket 2" game, since Bracket 2 is for babies. Hell, I still play ante cards like Contract from Below, and no "rules committee" is gonna change me.

I'd tell 'em that they're casting Game Changers in a Bracket 2 game like a jerk. There's always the chance that they don't know what they're doing is wrong, so I'd at least let them explain themselves. Briefly.

I'd knock over their library like a kitty cat. It really is such a power move, you should try it some time.

Sheoldred, Whispering One. I enjoy putting opponents in a situation where they have to make an unfavorable choice, because it gives them agency and makes the game interesting, even if the odds are in my favor.

Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur. I draw seven cards a turn, and the opponents have a max hand size of zero. I get to look at all my cool expensive cards, and opponents get to do nothing but watch me look at my cool expensive cards. Explain a better scenario to me, I'll wait.

Urabrask the Hidden. Urabrask just wanted to be left alone to vibe in his giant furnace lair, and that's something I can appreciate. Plus, he slows down the game, which - if you think about it - is only a good thing, because the slower a game is, the more we can enjoy it and each other's company, and isn't that what all this is about?

Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite. I usually play creature-based decks because I'm not a try-hard, so I appreciate Elesh Norn's ability to make my creatures better and everyone else's worse. Plus, just look at her, isn't she great?

Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger. The concept of fun in Magic is zero sum, which means that the more fun I'm having, the less fun everyone else is having. And if opponents derive fun from Magic: The Gathering, preventing them from obtaining that enjoyment therefore increases my own enjoyment. Facts.

Glacial Chasm. I don't mind cards that interact with the board, even if that means blowing everything up. Hell, I love me some mass land destruction. But a land, that you can just play for free, that just nullifies all damage? Please. Take your hits like a champ, don't hide behind a glacier.

Gaea's Cradle. I can't believe this card isn't banned like its cousin Tolarian Academy. It's such an unfair mana advantage with no downside, other than its real life price tag. If it's not cEDH, the game's better off with that card never played.

Probably The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale - it's $3,000, doesn't make mana, and only exists to make the game harder for everyone. I hardly ever see it in real life though, since, again, $3,000.

Island. That's a funny joke to say that, and I just made it up right now. Basic Island. When someone plays an Island in a game, I yell "JUDGE!" as a funny joke. Everyone hates it.

Definitely a 1. What's that saying, if you think everyone's a problem, then you're probably the problem? Well, I'm not the problem. (It's everyone else.)

Probably in the 1 range. Everyone gets mad sometimes, that's just being human. And that's okay. It's how you process that anger that determines the kind of person you are.

Probably a 1. I could get a lot more upset at a lot more people, and they'd deserve it. But I don't, because I am a nice person.

Somewhere around a 1. I just want to play Magic, man.

A 1, most likely. I'm not afraid to tell people off, but all in all I'm a fun person who people enjoy having around.

With the way things are these days, it's surprising that this score is even possible. Most people can't even leave their house without accruing some level of residual salt from their environment. This score is a testament to your enduring ability to let inconvenience and discomfort slide off you as if life itself is nothing but sunshine and rainbows. The downside of having zero salt, though, is that you might be considered by some to be bland, flavorless, and prone to dangerous electrolyte imbalances. You're basically the "in-laws' cooking" of Magic players.

So sure, good on you for rolling with the punches, but maybe try a little salt next time? It's good for you.

You Scored Zero!

Congratulations! Your Salt Score is a 1, which means that you're basically just a regular person. Not too salty, but not completely flavorless, either. Just a pinch of the good stuff goes a long way, after all.

And you share good company, too: of cards that also scored a 1, you've got Craterize, which is a worse Stone Rain, Burning Earth, which is a worse Mana Barbs, Mind Warp, which is a worse Mind Twist, and Hibernation, which is a worse Evacuation.

So, now that we're thinking about it, are we sure that scoring a 1 is a good thing? Or is it the Salt Score equivalent of using Splenda?

You Scored 1!

Look at that, you're a 2 on the Salt Scale! Neat!

What does that mean, exactly? Well, it might seem like you're right in the middle, but that's not really the case. Like the Salt Score voting for cards, the vast majority of people score a sub-1. Most people just aren't that salty. Not you though, whooo boy.

Scoring a 2 puts you in some rarified air. You aren't soy sauce levels of Salt, but you're maybe threatening ketchup range. You might want to chill out a bit, before you cause problems.

In terms of cards that scored similarly to you as a human person, you're talking Narset, Parter of Veils, Force of Will, Scrambleverse, and Sen Triplets. Is that really the kind of company you want to keep? Do you want other people to look at you and think, "wow, this person's about as likeable as a Sen Triplet"? Perhaps it's time to consider meditation?

You Scored 2!

We here at EDHREC are not responsible for people who score this high on a quiz to determine an individual's Salt Score. EDHREC is not therapy.

We are, however, concerned for you. To put this score into context, 2025 Salt Score voting determined that only one card - Stasis - was salty enough to earn a 3. Literally no other card scored higher than a 2.96. That's you. You're Stasis-levels of salty.

In fact, throughout the entire seven-year history of EDHREC Salt Scores, only three cards have EVER scored a 3 or higher: the aforementioned Stasis, alongside Winter Orb and Armageddon.

Look in the mirror. Do you see yourself as a blindfolded, anthropomorphic fox creature on a scale opposite a monochromatic clown artist? Because that's what you are. Work on yourself.

You Scored 3!

Listen. Statistically, this score shouldn't even be possible. Nothing and no one ever scores a 4. The highest-ever Salt Score recorded in nearly a decade of EDHREC doing the card-by-card voting is 3.15, earned by Stasis in 2020.

You're almost a full point saltier than the saltiest Magic card ever made. Honestly, we're baffled. Should you be...proud? Ashamed? We're in uncharted territory here.

Like, there aren't even good food-based analogies we can make here. You're not salty like soy sauce, you're salty like pouring a salt shaker directly into your mouth. Every time you go outside, every slug in a mile radius instantly flees (albeit slowly). You singlehandedly de-ice every sidewalk. The Dead Sea looks at you and thinks "damn."

If you scored a 4, call your local university. They'll want to study you.
