These changes, in a nutshell, are meant to increase opportunities to open things players enjoy, like showcase foils, and a bit less of what they don't, like foil commons and uncommons.

Here's a breakdown of what you can expect with Nauctis sealed product and beyond.

General changes and booster pack additions

Play boosters are now simply called "Booster" packs

Japanese showcase cards will be available in Boosters in the wildcard slot in traditional foil

"Increased drop rates of foil rare and mythic rare cards" in Booster packs

What's being removed from Booster packs

Removing foil common and uncommon cards from Booster packs

No more guarantee of a foil in every Booster pack

If you open a foil card in a Booster pack, it will be a rare or mythic rare

What's being removed from Collector Boosters

Removing two commons and one uncommon from the foil slots, which will not be replaced (with the caveat "we're still keeping some number of foil common and uncommon cards in Collector Boosters, as they won't be available in Booster Packs")

Changes to MTG Collector boosters

1 God Pack celebration card

1 Foil land

3 Foil default frame rare and/or mythic rare cards

3 Non-foil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards

5 Foil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare card

In the article, Blake mentions: "You may have heard us call this the "foil fancy slot" on WeeklyMTG. It's that, but it's five of them instead of one. Yes, that means this slot could hypothetically contain multiple headliner cards. It's pretty improbable, but, hey, it could happen."

Let's get crackin'!

These changes, as stated in the article and from what we can infer, are to help gather even more excitement around packs being opened. As someone who has played the game for over two decades and loves drafting, I personally enjoy seeing these types of changes to sealed product, especially since I've dealt with the dreaded "Draft booster" era of sadness and despair. But what do you think? Will you be cracking more packs because of this? Is this the inevitable end of Magic as we know it (spoilers: no, come on, y'all). Let us know!
